Tip number 1 – Practice with a metronome. You may not realize this, but one of the hardest things to do when playing music is to keep perfect time. The reason is because our built in clock isn’t perfect. I mean let’s be honest. Do you REALLY know what 120 beats per minute is? I seriously doubt that many musicians have a built in clock that good. So play with a metronome. It will help you keep your rhythm steady.

Tip number 2 – Practice your blues progressions in repetitions. In other words, let’s say you’re practicing a 16 bar blues progression. You don’t want to do it just one time and stop. Tip number 3 – Make sure your guitar is in tune. Now, I know what you’re thinking. What does it matter? I’m practicing fingering and chord progressions. It doesn’t matter if the guitar is in tune or not. Well, yes it does. The short reason (this gets complex) is that when your fingers learn something, your ear learns it as well. If you’re ear is learning the wrong thing, when the guitar IS in tune, it won’t sound correct to you and believe it or not, you won’t play it as well because your ear and brain are fighting with each other. This is especially true for people with perfect pitch.

Blues guitar is not hard, but it does take some practice. In my signature is a great online course that will really improve your playing. You can read my review on it and make your own decision.
