There are subtle differences between them but the playing basics are the same. This article will detail the differences between Acoustic and electric guitars. Acoustic guitars These types of guitars do not require an amplifier or any electricity to be audible. The body is typically much thicker and is hollow. On the body under the strings is a “sound hole”. When you play the guitar the sound is reverberated in the body of the guitar and is easily heard. Acoustic guitars come in several sizes that include classical, jumbo, baby jumbo and concert. The size of the body will have an impact on the resonation of the sounds produced by the strings.
