Bestival is a self styled boutique music festival held towards the end of summer each year on the Isle of Wight. This years it is to be held from the 9th – 12th September 2010. It’s been going since 2004 and was set up by leftfield music champion Rob Da Bank. This year is going to feature Dizzee Rascal, The Flaming Lips and The Prodigy headlining. This festival promises to accommodate all tastes in music with acts ranging from Indie groups like Mumford and Suns, dance acts like Chase and Status and pop acts like Ellie Goulding.
Bestival itself is famous for much more than simply the music on offer. It has a well known love of dressing up. Each year holds a different theme and this year’s theme is anything fantasy and fantastic. To help complete your fantasy outfit you’ll find a special dressing up area next to the Bollywood tent. The festival is also famous for other things as well as the music and dressing up. If you fancy getting married at the festival there’s an inflatable church licensed for marriages. Bestival is also known for its green thinking too. From recycle bins dotted all around the campsites to their promise that everything physically possible is recycled. It promotes the available ferry services and advocates public transport. If you’re adamant you want to drive you’ll be asked to consider partaking in a car sharing scheme.
The overall feel of the festival is much more peaceful and bohemian than most festivals in the UK. The location of Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight was chose for a specific reason. The Isle itself was chosen because of the rural beauty surrounding it. Bestival is also known for offering a wider selection in genre acts and not just focusing on a certain genre. Despite this festival being organised by a self confessed music junkie, there is much more than just the music to take in at bestial.
